Established in December 1999, the School of International Education (SIE) serves as the department responsible for the enrollment, management, services, and language training of international students at Inner Mongolia University (IMU). Since the 1980s, when it began receiving international students, IMU has cultivated over 4,000 students from more than 60 countries and regions across five continents. Thanks to its efforts, at present, the SIE has established an education and management system for international students in China, including language students, advanced students, exchange students, undergraduates, master’s students and doctoral students, with complete training types and levels as well as interdisciplinary development. Currently, there are over 500 international students from more than 20 countries, including Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Togo, Nigeria, and Benin.

Teaching Method

Through years of exploration and development, the SIE has established a scientific and effective teaching system in language and culture. Faculty use flexible, targeted teaching methods and leverage digital teaching platforms, such as multimedia equipment and resources. Based on students’ language proficiency, the SIE offers four levels of language training: beginner/introductory, elementary, intermediate, and advanced, with relevant courses in listening, speaking, writing, reading, and integrated skills. Additionally, the SIE promotes various "second classroom" activities for international students, such as Chinese calligraphy, traditional painting, paper cutting, Tai Chi, and tea art, along with branded events including Sports & Culture Competition for Overseas Students in China, Perception of China, Meeting in Inner Mongolia, and Enjoying Yourself in Hohhot. These activities enrich international students’ cultural experiences and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture.

Facilities

The SIE also provides international students with a comfortable living environment. The SIE has three international student dormitory buildings, offering single, double, and quadruple rooms, all fully equipped with bathrooms, beds, desks, wardrobes, televisions, and computer network interfaces, with 24-hour hot water supply. Each floor also has a shared kitchen equipped with washing machines, water purifiers, and other facilities to meet students’ daily needs. IMU’s campus is home to several cafeterias that cater to the dietary preferences of people from different countries and ethnic backgrounds.

With a scientific training model, advanced teaching resources, and standardized management and services, the SIE encourages students, scholars, and friends from around the world to study and exchange ideas here.
